Genuine Hyundai Engine Coolants

Let us know by webchat or below methods if you can’t find the part you are looking for.

What Kind of Coolant Does Hyundai Use?

Hyundai vehicles are designed to run on long‑life coolant using modern HOAT (Hybrid Organic Acid Technology) chemistry for excellent corrosion protection and heat transfer. Genuine Hyundai Coolant is formulated to be silicate‑free and borate‑free where required, to protect aluminium components (radiator, water pump) and to match Hyundai’s gasket and seal materials.

Depending on model/year and region, Hyundai genuine coolant is Long Life Pink Coolant, though Green (long‑life) and Orange can appear on some models or older vehicles.

How Often Should You Change Hyundai Coolant?

Service intervals vary by model and year. As a general guide for modern Hyundai vehicles, typical change around 5 years or 100,000 km, then at regular intervals thereafter.

Tip: Have your coolant inspected at every service for level, concentration (freeze/boil protection), pH, and signs of contamination. Avoid mixing different coolant chemistries.

Signs You Need to Refill Your Coolant

  • Low coolant level in the expansion reservoir (below “MIN” when cold)
  • Overheating gauge rising above normal or temperature warning light
  • Heater not blowing hot air (air pockets or low level)
  • Visible leaks (coloured residue) or sweet smell under the bonnet
  • Rusty/discoloured coolant or particles in the tank
  • Cooling fans running constantly or not engaging when hot

If you’re topping up frequently, there may be a leak, get it inspected promptly.

Can You Drive with Low Coolant?

It’s not recommended. Low coolant can quickly lead to overheating, warped heads, blown head gaskets, or engine failure. If the temperature rises or a warning appears, stop safely, let the engine cool completely, and address the level/leak before continuing.

How to Refill Hyundai Coolant (Top‑Up Basics)

Only top up when the engine is completely cold.

  1. Identify the reservoir: Locate the translucent expansion tank and check the “MIN / MAX” marks.
  2. Use the correct coolant: Prefer Genuine Hyundai premix (50/50). If unavailable for an emergency top‑up, use a small amount of distilled water only, then replace with genuine coolant as soon as possible.
  3. Fill to MAX (cold): Add slowly to avoid air pockets.
  4. Run and recheck: Start the engine, set heater to HOT, let it reach operating temp so the thermostat opens; shut down, allow to cool, and recheck level.
  5. Bleeding air: Some models require a bleed screw or specific procedures—consult service info if the heater stays cold or the gauge fluctuates.
  6. Inspect for leaks: If level drops again, have the system pressure‑tested.

For a full coolant change/flush, follow model‑specific procedures and torque specs, and dispose of old coolant responsibly. If unsure, ask a qualified technician.
